About
The recipe creator is something I have wanted for a long time. I decided to commission this project to Margaret, a coder in Ireland.
It has gone through 20 changes and I believe that now all errors have been fixed and all functionality issues have been included.
We started off with a basic recipe calculator, but after Beta 1.9 one of the trial users suggested an HLB calculator as well. This has now been included.
The HLB calculator is based on the extremely useful HLB PDF by Convergent Cosmetics.
Important notes
The recipe calculator is fairly self explanatory, however please note the following.
If you wish to use the HLB calculator you must tick the box "HLB oil phase" You can then add your oils, add your oil soluble actives, choose your main and secondary emulsifier, and it will then give you the amounts.
This is based on a default of 2% total emulsifier in the formula. The default can be changed.
If you do not want to use the HLB calculator (which is not required for gelmaker plus), then simply create your phases and choose your actives. It is suggested that each phase is based on the solvent (water, oil, alcohol).
When you select an active a number of sovents will automatically pop up. These are suggestions only, you remove the solvents, and change the percentages.
The calculator also takes care of the calculations for actives that are standardized at less than 100 percent.
So, if you want to add 5% of DMAE, which is standardized at 37%, it will show you the correct amount required (in percentage and grams) to get 5% DMAE, instead of 5% dmae + bitartrate.
It will also show the amount required in spoons. I still have to update the info for all my actives (by taking a 1/2 spoon and weighing it on the scale). So, if you get a question mark, that means I have not yet added the data.
All data can be modified (actives, categories, emulsifiers, oils etc.) Recipes can be saved, and exported as word, excel or HTML.
At this stage it is not possible to import recipe files.
I have created an "open to all" forum board for this here:

John
