About Soy and Isoflavones

The soybean (soya bean) is a species of legume native to East Asia, widely grown for its edible bean which has numerous uses.

The beans contain significant amounts of phytic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, and the isoflavones genistein and daidzein.

Isoflavones

Isoflavones comprise a class of organic compounds, often naturally occurring, related to the isoflavonoids.

Many act as phytoestrogens in mammals. Some are termed antioxidants because of their ability to trap singlet oxygen.
