Creams, toners, ampoules... all have only 0,1% of triterpenes, this toner i make have 1,4%. I am loving it, will see the results. .. ...»

Just recently ordered this and LOVE! Green Tea EGCG truly is one of the most fantastic skincare actives out there. Very difficult to find good quality product (90%) and even harder to actually solubilize it! Love that it comes in pre-dissolved solution. I enjoy adding it at 1% (so 11% sol) to my serum formulations containing Niacinamide 5% + NAG 3%. Excellent for oily acne prone skin. *Only gripe... because the Pre-Dissolved Solution is SO heavy in propanediol (10 parts Propanediol for 1 part E.. ...»

Wonderful base cream! Only multi-lamellar structured cream I've found on the market. Cream itself is lightweight (no oil) yet very conditioning/hydrating. Easily accepts water-soluble active ingredients as well as oil-soluble ones. I've even pushed the additional ingred % up to 20 (meaning 80% this cream, 20% added) without any separation issues. Ideal base cream for delivering actives. Personal favorite recipe calls for 5% straight Grapeseed Oil with 5% SebumREG oil active + Panthenol 1% + E Ac.. ...»

Pomegranate (40% Ellagic)

Pomegranates have been used in medicine since ancient times. The extract of this plant contains many compounds acting synergistically to produce strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. It also helps maintain collagen levels, both by promoting its synthesis and inhibiting collagen-degrading enzymes. Due to these properties, pomegranate extract has a range of benefits in UV protection – it can be used both to prevent and to reduce sunlight damage (photoageing) after exposure. Furthermore, it is an effective skin whitening agent, used to treat melasma and other hyperpigmentation problems. Finally, faster wound healing is observed when using this extract. Combined with antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory properties and the ability to increase collagen synthesis, this makes pomegranate extract beneficial in many aspects of wound care.

NOTE: To assist you with solubility issues, we now also sell Pomegranate Extract as a standardized pre-dissolved solution. Just add the liquid to your cream and mix well.

About Pomegranate (40% Ellagic) in DIY Skin Care

Pomegranate (40% Ellagic) skin carePomegranate has been used in Middle Eastern and Indian medicine for many centuries. Scientific interest in the cosmetical properties of this plant sparked only recently, but it is already known as a powerful antioxidant with potential in treating numerous diseases, from diabetes and cardiovascular disease to Alzheimer’s and cancer [1].

Pomegranate extracts are standardized to contain 40 % of ellagic acid. This compound is one of the main antioxidants in pomegranates [2]. On the other hand, retaining a considerable amount of other compounds helps to achieve synergistic effects by combined activity of all the components [1]. Among the other compounds, polysaccharides have many beneficial properties – they are able to neutralize free radicals and even reduce glycation [3]. The latter reaction occurs in patients with diabetes, Alzheimer’s and other diseases, resulting in damaged collagen and other proteins. Coupled with increased collagen synthesis, the anti-glycation effect makes pomegranate very useful for these patients. Of course, as antioxidants, pomegranate compounds are useful for any skin, as they provide protection during UV exposure [4].

Ellagic acid also imparts a strong anti-inflammatory activity on the extract. In mice with dermatitis, both the extract and purified ellagic acid successfully reduced edema – their effect was even stronger than that of reference drugs used [5]. It was also effective in reducing facial reddening (erythema) in human trials [6]. Together with the antioxidant activity, this makes pomegranate extract a desirable ingredient in UV protection. In experiments with human skin, treatment with this extract significantly reduced various types of UV damage [7]. It prevented protein oxidation, DNA damage, and suppressed the synthesis of metalloproteinases – enzymes that are responsible for the decrease in collagen during photoageing. Another study found that this extract reduced UV-induced cell death, inflammatory processes, and even retained cells in an undividing stage, giving them more time to repair DNA damage [8]. Pomegranate extract can also increase collagen levels directly, by increasing its synthesis [9].

Pomegranate extracts are useful for reducing undesired skin darkening. Ellagic acid binds copper, which is necessary for melanin-producing enzymes to act, and thus prevents hyperpigmentation. In human trials, pomegranate extract was found to reduce skin melanin content already after 6 weeks of application [6]. Ellagic acid, especially in form of a plant extract, was also successful in treating patients with melasma (pigmented skin spots arising from hormonal causes) [10]. 0.5 % ellagic acid cream, in combination with salicylic acid, significantly reduces hyperpigmentation and dark spots, and even has better properties than other pharmaceuticals [11]. Other components of pomegranate, punicalagins, were also found to inhibit same enzymes, thus adding to the overall whitening effect [12].

Another major skincare application of pomegranate extract is wound care. It was found that this extract promotes wound healing, epithelium regeneration, and increases the concentrations of hydroxyproline, important component of collagen [13]. Similar effects were observed in another study, where treatment with pomegranate extract resulted in twice faster healing of wounds [14]. Purified ellagic acid also has these properties. However, its effect is weaker compared to a full extract with the same quantity of ellagic acid, again proving that the power of pomegranate extract lies in the combination of different ingredients [15]. The extract also has anti-microbial properties against many kinds of bacteria and fungi, while remaining completely safe for the host [2], [16]
